About the 3D Accuitomo 170

3D Accuitomo 170 is J. Morita's most advanced CBCT unit, the 4th generation of the Accuitomo line. It's built around a minimum voxel size of just 80 µm and nine selectable fields of view — the widest range in Morita's CBCT lineup — so scan volume can be matched to the region of interest instead of the other way around. Paired with 14-bit grayscale for a wide dynamic range, it produces the grayscale spread needed to read both hard and soft tissue with subtle contrast. Four imaging modes let the acquisition match the patient and the diagnostic task. Standard mode (17.5 sec/360°, 9.0 sec/180°) covers general use — limited and wide views of the temporal bone, paranasal sinus, maxilla, mandible, and individual teeth. Hi-Res mode captures at one-quarter the standard pixel size for the sharpest image the unit produces, useful when fine anatomical detail is the priority. Hi-Res Mode

Hi-Res captures at one-quarter the standard pixel size — the sharpest image the 3D Accuitomo 170 produces — while still completing a 360° scan in 30.8 seconds (15.8 seconds at 180°). It's available on the ø40 mm and ø60 mm fields of view, where fine anatomical detail matters most: root fractures, subtle periapical change, fine bone architecture.

Hi-Fi Mode

Hi-Fi runs the same 30.8 sec/15.8 sec acquisition as Hi-Res, but it's tuned to minimize artifact rather than maximize per-pixel sharpness. Reach for it when you plan to zoom-reconstruct the scan afterward — the extra data density keeps that reconstruction clean.

Hi-Speed Mode

Hi-Speed cuts scan time to 10.5 seconds (360°) or 5.4 seconds (180°), the fastest the unit offers. The shorter window helps with patients who have a hard time holding still — children in particular — and gives dose-conscious patients a lower-exposure option, on the ø40 mm and ø60 mm fields of view.

Two-Direction Scout System

Before running the full scan, the unit can capture two still X-ray images — one coronal, one sagittal — so you can confirm the region of interest is centered and adjust it by dragging the cursor on screen if it isn't. The scout exposure adds only about 2% to the dose of a standard-mode scan, a small trade for confirming positioning before committing to the full acquisition.

Triple Beam Positioning

Three laser reference beams set the patient's initial position, and a chinrest with headrest holds them stable through the exposure. Between the lasers, the scout images, and that physical stabilization, the chair lands on the region of interest without repeat setups or a repeat scan for a missed target.

Zoom Reconstruction

Any scan can be reconstructed at a higher resolution after the fact — down to 80 µm — with no additional X-ray exposure to the patient. If the patient moved during a 360° acquisition, the unit can also extract a clean 180° of motion-free data rather than requiring a rescan.
